Why there is no single number
The first question most families ask is “how much?”, and the honest answer is that it depends — on the role, the hours, whether the person lives in, their experience and the part of the city. A trained patient care attendant working nights is paid differently from a part-time cleaner, and both are paid differently in F-6 than on the edge of the city.
Anyone quoting one flat figure for “a maid” without asking about your home is guessing. The better question is: what goes into the price, and what is left out?
What sets the salary
- The role — specialist and care roles cost more than general housework.
- Hours — full-day, half-day or a few visits a week.
- Live-in or live-out — live-in pay is set alongside food and accommodation.
- Experience and training — for example, a cook who can manage a full household menu.
- Special requirements — languages, a driving licence, experience with infants or with patients.
The costs families forget to ask about
The salary is only part of the budget. Before you agree, ask an agency these questions and get the answers in writing:
- Is the agency fee paid once, or every month?
- Who pays for police verification?
- Does a replacement cost extra, and within what period is it free?
- Is an annual increment written into the agreement?
- What happens to the fee if the placement ends in the first few weeks?
Budgeting for live-in staff
For live-in roles, set aside the cost of meals, a furnished room, and the day-to-day items that come with someone living in your home. Plan for paid leave at Eid and a bonus at the same time, which is customary and expected.
Get a quote for your home
The fastest way to a real figure is to describe the job: the role, the hours, live-in or not, your sector and anything specific you need. Message PMS on WhatsApp with those details and we will give you a clear quote, with the fee, the salary range and what the replacement guarantee covers, in writing.
